Keflavík Airport master plan

VSO Consulting has worked on the production of the master plan in collaboration with the architect firm Glámu-Kím. The emphasis was put on land use planning for the airport, including after the evacuation of the defence force. Substantial increase in air traffic through the airport has been noted, and the fundamental idea was to shape the future scenario for the airport’s developmental possibilities. The subjects were therefore to compare the choices of a new runway and circumscribe and shape the direction of the development of employment areas around the airport. Incidentally, forecasts for passenger numbers consistently changed during the shaping of the plan, since previous estimates couldn’t hold a candle to real development.
